Week 33 - Hays

 Olá Y'all!

This week we got some exciting news about brazil! Supposedly missionaries are going back in February, including to Belém! That's exciting!

We were able to find and teach a lot more people this week, which was also good! We got out of quarantine, which was nice. But we are on a low-key lockdown because we have a big conference next week and our mission president wants to make sure no one else gets sick.

Also this week was interviews with our mission president and he asked me to start studying spanish with my portuguese. At first I was surprised and decided I would start doing both Tuesday. And then we got an assignment for our social media page and it was supposed to be in Spanish! My comp and I don't speak spanish! 🤦🏻‍♂️ but now I will be studying both more diligently and hopefully I won't learn portanhol🤞🏻

This week I was studying in Moroni 8:16 and the end was pretty powerful. It says "and I fear not what man can do; for perfect love casteth out all fear." I think that sometimes we fear too much and love too little. I have seen how acting in love can change others life and especially your own life! So let's all choose to love everyone despite our differences!

I am unfortunately out of time, so it is time for pictures! Yay!
1. Another beautiful midwestern sunset

2-3. Some fun service we got to do! We directed traffic for a parade

4. Our fridge broke so this is what we are doing till it gets fixed soon.

5+ The rest are some of the pictures of the 8 inches of snow we got! Which means I got to learn how to drive in the snow 🥳 kinda scary at first but I got the hang of it 😎

This is all for now! Feel free to email me if you would like or if you have any questions! Hope y'all have a great week!

Mission email

Dear Parents,

It’s been a week of highs and lows.

We had wonderful trainings and interviews with the missionaries in the Topeka and Salina Zones. Photos are posted on the KWM Friends and Family Facebook page.

Because of the miracles of technology, we were able to participate in the funeral services of Elder Scheese. Many of you sent your condolences and words of encouragement and love. Thank you.

We have the great privilege this week of having zone conference with our Area Seventy – Elder Rawson and his wonderful wife. They live here locally in Wichita. It will be a memorable conference for your missionary.

As you talk with your missionary, they may share with you the tightened covid circumstances we’ve asked them to comply with for the past two weeks. They have not been able to gather as a district on p-day or for District Council Meeting. These restrictions have been put into place to keep all the missionaries healthy and out of quarantine situations so that they can all attend Elder Rawson’s zone conferences.

Our social media missionaries have been searching for ways to bring non-members to our Facebook pages. They have planned and presented to the missionaries what they call “the wave”. This coming Saturday all the missionaries and members here will share an invitation with their friends on Facebook to join and like our Facebook pages.

We would invite you to join us and share our pages with your friends. See the attachment for directions to our YouTube video and instructions.

We have a “live events” committee that works with Elder Ingram to produce weekly Facebook events. If you aren’t viewing these, we would invite you to join us. Each Sunday at 6:30 Central time is our Sunday Devotional. Thousands of people are viewing these events of teaching and testimony. This Sunday the missionaries will teach about the attributes of Jesus Christ. Don’t miss it!

This week’s top post was by Elder Ellington. His post entitled “Have you ever wondered where you come from?” reached 998 people.

Our top non-blitz video was from the Wellington Elders. It is “Elder Palpatine’s Lesson” and it reached 6,285 people.

Please join us in this week’s blitz. Here is the link. Please share it on your personal Facebook profiles and with all your friends. It’s a great video from our Wichita missionaries.

As I watch this video, I am reminded of the goodness of our missionaries and that they are God’s greatest creation.

This is indeed a marvelous work and your missionary is the wonder!

Have a marvelous week. We will!

Week 32 Hays

Olá Y'all!

This week we were in quarantine the whole time! Woot woot! Elder Dunn has unfortunately tested positive for covid! He is doing fine but our mission medical nurse kinda banished him to his room, so he has been in his room for 6 days now with almost no human contact! I would go absolutely crazy! His comp is in our room and when they do lessons they both get on their phones, which is kinda weird but you work how you gotta work. And none of the rest of us elders have had symptoms so hopefully quarantine will end relatively quickly!

So with us being in quarantine, not a lot happened. We mainly sat in our apartment, taught lessons, called people all day! It was really hard at first, but it is getting easier now!

This week I was reading in the Book of Mormon and I love the words of Christ in 3 Nephi 18! In verses 18-19 he says
"18 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always lest ye enter into temptation; for Satan desireth to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.
19 Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;"
This week I have really had my testimony of prayer strengthened! I know that when we pray God is listening! When we pray we are talking to an Almighty God and He will reply to each and every sincere prayer offered! And one more quote that I loved this week! It is in BYU devotional by Elder Gene R Cook, and he said "I am truly convinced that if you pray continually without ceasing throughout a day, hour upon hour, you will find that you are able to live in this world and yet not be part of it, that you really can have your hand in the Lord’s hand and be directed from on high"  I can testify with Elder Cook that when we are continually praying throughout the day we will be able to live in the world and yet not have to be a part of all of its craziness! Praying continually has made a difference for me and I know it can for you!

I am unfortunately out of time, so it is time for pictures! Yay!

1. A fun district call! Pretty much only other people we talk to
2. One of our few walks that we are allowed to go on because we are in quarantine
3. Waiting on someone to answer their phone for our lesson

4. I don't know how well this will turn out but this is right outside our apartment! Kansas has the best sunsets!

This is all for now! Feel free to email me if you would like or if you have any questions! Hope y'all have a great week!

Week 31 Hays

Olá Y'all!

This was a wonderful week! It was transfers, but nothing changed in our companionship. We are continuing to find and teach and serve others!

We got to go work on a farm this week! I mostly picked up a bunch of scrap metal and we also unwinded a metal fence. We also helped someone paint their office building which was super fun!

We did get one new Elder in our apartment this week, Elder Dunn. He is from San Diego and a pretty cool guy. But he also has been getting pretty sick lately! 😬 We will find out later this week if he has Covid!

A scripture I read this week is 2 Nephi 2:6-8, which says "6 Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth.
7 Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.
8 Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise."

I think that these scriptures are some of the most plain and powerful scriptures about Jesus Christ. It teaches and shows of the love that Christ had for each one of us! He was willing to suffer, bleed, and die for each one of us, even if we were the only person it affected! I know that He loves and desires to bless and I am eternally grateful for His loving atonement!

I am unfortunately out of time, so it is time for pictures! Yay!

1. Elder Belnap and I with our cowboy hats

2. One of the elders burned his toast and so he just decided to put it on the deck and let it sit there.

 3. A cool mural of Hays, with some of the things Hays is known for.

The rest are some pictures of the service we did on the farm this week!

This is all for now! Feel free to email me if you would like or if you have any questions! Hope y'all have a great week!

Mission Email

Dear Parents,

It was a busy week in the mission. The day we said goodbye to our departing missionaries we welcomed six new missionaries. Sister Melissa Griffin, Sister Abigale Hunting, Elder Spencer Olson, Elder Nathaniel Roberts, Elder McKinley Williams, and Elder Ethan Slade. We are thrilled to have them join us.

From time to time, President Ernst and I are able to join the zoom calls and virtual Sacrament meetings of our missionaries as they report on their experiences here in Kansas. It is miraculous for us to see them as they enter the mission field, struggle and grow, love and serve, and then stand as a powerful missionary of Jesus Christ and witness of Him and His gospel. Thank you for the privilege of working with and serving alongside your missionary. We promise to keep the balance in the work of finding, teaching, and baptizing converts, and helping your missionary to become a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Transfers are completed so make sure that you get your missionary’s mailing address.

We currently have no Covid quarantines going on in the mission. We are so grateful for that.

Your missionaries are doing a good job of wearing masks, social distancing, and sanitizing their hands. Keep reminding them please!

Our missionaries continue to serve in their communities, create posts and videos for our Facebook pages, find people through various classified ads that they post in their areas, contact previously taught people, teach lessons, and deliver dozens of cookies. We are placing an emphasis on having a member present in every lesson they teach. Many of them are doing this and have seen miracles such as the member and the investigator were co-workers years ago. The concern that the investigator had about the church was the exact concern that the member had. Bonds of friendship occur, and testimonies are shared. Missionary work is really fun!

We want to thank Elder Alano for sharing his conversion story. Over 16,049 people have listened to his powerful invitation to listen to the missionaries and change their life. Please watch it, share it to your profile, and with a friend that you have who needs to have the gospel in their life.

Week 30 Hays

Olá Y'all!

This was a pretty good week! We found out about transfers! I will be staying here in Hays with Elder Belnap for another 6 weeks! Woohoo! I am pretty excited for this upcoming transfer! Its gonna be a good one! It is also my first time staying with someone for more than 6 weeks!

This week we got to go over to our bishops farm to help out! It is about a 45 minute drive south to get there. We helped build a manger thing for his goats out of railroad ties and then we got to move the kids to the new shelter we made. And there was this huge bull that just got angry anytime anyone got close to him! At first it was funny, then it got scary. And afterwards we found out that the electric fence thing that surrounds the bull and keeps him from just stomping that wire fence was broken. So had he wanted to, the bull could have just trampled us all.

We were able to help some more friends this week and I feel like we set ourselves up for a good upcoming week! Please keep Neil, Judy, and Mary in your prayers!

This week I was reading in Alma 37, and I love verse 46! It says "O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever." I have noticed that I sometimes don't want to take a path or do something because it is too easy or doesn't seem like it would make a big difference. But I have learned and noticed that it is often the little things that we need to do that often makes a difference! God will provide a way if we are doing the, often small, things we need to do!

I am unfortunately out of time, so it is time for pictures! Yay!

1. A manakin that we saw on the side of the road!

2. Da boys on a walk
3. We got to play mandalorian monopoly today and needless to say, I destroyed everyone! 😁

4. Forgot to send last week, but this is the property of the people who live in a bunker! And it was very windy that day!

5+ the rest are us working on the farm! I hope the video works! It's about 3 seconds of the bull starting to get angry

This is all for now! Feel free to email me if you would like or if you have any questions! Hope y'all have a great week!

Mission Email

Dear Parents,

2020 was a remarkable year!  So much changed in the year of divine reset in missionary work. We had a blessed month in December, meeting and exceeding our baptismal goal. God is very good to us.

2021 looks to be a year with as much change. We’ve got missionaries who are receiving notification about passport and visa work being started for them. This is tricky to navigate for all those missionaries who are awaiting their return to their originally assigned countries. We are sure that you hear of missionaries who are returning to these countries and perhaps you pass that information along to your missionary. Please help them stay focused on the work here. Help them keep their roots planted in the rich Kansas soil until the time comes to go.

We say goodbye today to Sister Rebekah Kirkham, Sister Madelyn Tate, Sister Elizabeth Pease, Elder Body Nielson, Elder Ethan Davies, Elder Jacob Trythall, Elder Christian Webb, and Elder Taylor Cazier. They have been powerful and impactful missionaries.

Elder Trayson Wolfley will be returning to his originally assigned country this week. We will miss him as well. We wish him God speed.

Thanks to Elder Hunt, Elder Keller, Elder Alvarez, and Elder Zurek for this week’s blitz video. Please share this to your Facebook profiles and with specific friends who need this message.

Happy New Year!!

We love your missionary and consider it our greatest honor to serve with them.
